Simeon the Pillar Saint, was the first stylite and most famous pillar saint. He lived from approx 389 to 459 in Syria. At the age of 16 he entered a monastery, but proved unsuitable for communion life and was forced to leave the monastery again.
He persisted in his ascetic way of life and retired to a hut. The legend spread that he spent the entire Lent here without food or drink.
After 3 years in the hut, he went to live in a cave in the desert. He spent his time in prayer.

In the meantime he became famous for his way of life. Many admirers went to see him for his advice and support. This allowed him to focus less and less on his meditation. Therefore, he installed himself on a pillar with a small platform. But his popularity only increased. To avoid the hustle and bustle of the growing stream of pilgrims, the pillar was replaced several times by a higher one, to reach a height of 12 to 18 meters.

After 36 years on his pillar, Simeon died.

Was Simon a saint or a fool?
The one does not exclude the other. That is why a follie from this series fits him.
